Summary of Position

The Personal Lines Insurance Representative I is accountable for providing a high level of customer service to a diverse clientele in recognizing and responding appropriately to business development opportunities by meeting the customers’ insurance needs. In addition, the personal lines representative is responsible for achieving new sales and growth opportunities for the organization.

Lines of Business

The Personal Lines Insurance Representative I handles retail ICBC, private automobile and unlicensed vehicle insurance, and travel medical insurance.  They may also handle certain types of personal insurance (tenants, condominium, and homeowners), and pleasurecraft insurance. They may also back up the Commercial Fleet Specialist with Commercial Fleets and Producer ICBC.

Qualifications

The Personal Lines Insurance Representative I has a minimum 1 year experience in automobile and travel insurance.  They carry a General Insurance Salesperson Level 1 License through the Insurance Council of British Columbia.  Individuals with a Level 1 license cannot bind business, cannot sign binders or applications, and must be supervised by a Level 2 agent at all times.

Additional Responsibilities

New Business/Renewals:

  • Demonstrate needs-based sales behavior, including reactive and tag-on selling, building additional relationships with new customers, asking for referrals, generating new business and increasing customer retention
  • Maintain a diary of prospective and current clients and follow-up on sales leads
  • Building additional relationships with current customers, asking for referrals, generating new business and increasing customer retention
  • Review and work renewal lists, contacting clients minimum 45 days in advance
  • Ensure that all notes to file are completed after each transaction in a timely, accurate manner. Use of the Activity function is used and updated.

Customer Service & Producer Support:

  • Provide friendly, professional service to customers and producers (if applicable)
  • Handle routine customer and producer inquiries/concerns
  • Take and report claims to the Claims Coordinator
  • Return all customer inquiries in a timely manner
  • Ensure work is prompt, efficient and accurate

Administration:

  • Maintain ICBC inventory (plates, decals, etc.)
  • Batch and transmit ICBC documents
  • Order and maintain office supplies
  • Open/distribute/scan mail and courier
  • Close POS machine
  • Process recurring credit card payments as required
  • Process payments
  • Work accounts receivable lists
  • Maintain expiration and abeyance files
  • File/scan own files
  • Ensure all documents are accurate and files are kept in an orderly manner
  • Assist with the processing of accounts for the Assistant Manager and Manager, as required, and/or handle a small book of personal lines business as required.
