Insurance Brokers Association of British Columbia

Introduction to Risk Management

Developed by the Insurance Institute of America, the Introduction to Risk Management self-study course is ideal for brokers who deal in personal lines and small to medium-sized commercial risks.

The course is designed for brokers who would like to have a basic understanding of

  • what risk managers do,
  • how they do it, and
  • why risk management is important.

The textbook consists of six chapters that take a case-study approach.

Writing the Exam
The course ends with a two-hour examination. The examination consists of two types of questions: short-answer definition and questions related to a case study that requires you to analyze a situation and apply what you’ve learned.

The dates and registration deadlines are identical to those for the CAIB examinations.

The exam is graded in the U.S.A.

What You Get (Upon Passing)...

  • A certificate of completion issued by the Insurance Institute of America
  • 12 technical Continuing Education credits
